James finally added Katie as a Facebook friend after meeting each other at school. This marked the beginning of a friendship built on daily texts and messages throughout high school.

It took until the summer of 2014 for James and Katie to finally appear in a photo together and even then, they weren't alone. But hey, something is better than nothing!

Katie went back to Vietnam for the summer before the start of college and they finally have their first picture together!

James and Katie started dating and doing long distance for the next almost a decade!

James and Katie continued to fly back and forth between Montreal, Boston, Portland, Ohio, and Vietnam. The two kept the relationship alive by flying back and forth between cities over the next five years.

Katie spent her spring break in Montreal right before the COVID pandemic as they learned the news the borders are now closed between US and Canada.

James proposed to Katie at Tommy Cafe in Montreal, and she said yes!

James and Katie had an engagement ceremony in Vietnam with their families.

After the ceremony, they had a courthouse ceremony in Toronto, where James used to live, and were witnessed by Katie's dad and James' cousin.

After almost a decade of long distance, they are finally in the same city, Chicago, and ready to celebrate their love!
